MISSOURI PROCLAMATION

(seal) Office of the Governor Proclamation WHEREAS, the people of the United States live in freedom because of the contributions and sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, approximately 610,000 Missouri veterans of World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and peacetime service continue to exemplify the high American ideals of bravery, patriotism and dedication to democracy; and WHEREAS, more than 300,000 service members were wounded in Vietnam, approximately 75,000 were severely disabled and of the 58,000 killed, 1,413 were from the State of Missouri; and WHEREAS, the people of Missouri recognize the courage, sacrifice and honor of Vietnam veterans, their families and loved ones; and WHEREAS, we owe our veterans a debt we can never fully repay: NOW, THEREFORE, I, MEL CARNAHAN, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, do hereby proclaim October 20, 2000, to be WELCOME HOME DAY in Missouri and urge all citizens to join me in commencing our Vietnam veterans for their devotion to our state and nation. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Missouri in the City of Jefferson, this 15th day of March, 2000.
