SOUTH CAROLINA PROCLAMATION
| WHEREAS,
our
nation's Vietnam veterans fought with courage and honor, risking their
lives to protect the American values of freedom and democracy; and
WHEREAS, over 300,000 men were wounded, and more than 75,000 severely disabled, during the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, of the 58,000 soldiers killed in the Vietnam War, approximately 896 were from the State of South Carolina; and WHEREAS, the Welcome Home Day Foundation is a non-profit public benefit and educational foundation dedicated to honoring our nation's Vietnam veterans and their families for their courage and sacrifice during the Vietnam War and for their many positive contributions to our nation as productive members of our communities. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Jim Hodges, Governor of the Great State of South Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 20, 2000, as VIETNAM VETERAN throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to recognize and honor our nation's Vietnam Veterans for their many contributions to the preservation of the American way of life.
