| WHEREAS |
Members
of
the
Armed
Forces
of
the
United
States
who
were
stationed
in
Southeast
Asia
during
the
Vietnam
War
served
our
nation
under
the
most
trying
conditions
at
a
time
when
the
nation
was
divided
in
its
support;
and |
| WHEREAS |
More
than
300,000
service
members
were
wounded
in
Vietnam
and
approximately
75,000
were
severely
disabled
Of
the
58,000
killed,
395
were
from
the
State
of
Nebraska,
and |
| WHEREAS |
Since
their
return,
these
veterans
have
contributed
tremendously
to
their
communities,
states
and
nation
in
an
effort
to
advance
the
American
ideals
and
aims
for
which
they
fought,
and |
| WHEREAS |
We
as
citizens
of
the
great
State
of
Nebraska
must
never
forget
the
pain
and
suffering
that
lingers
today
for
the
men
and
women
who
fought,
with
honor
and
distinction,
in
the
name
of
freedom
and
democracy
for
all;
and |
| WHEREAS |
October
20,
2000,
has
been
set
aside
as
a
day
to
pay
tribute
to
and
welcome
home
our
sons
and
daughters
who
contributed
to
the
security
of
the
United
States
through
honorable
military
service
in
Vietnam,
and |
| WHEREAS |
The
people
of
the
great
State
of
Nebraska,
in
conjunction
with
the
Welcome
Home
Day
Foundation,
acknowledge
the
courage,
sacrifice,
honor
and
positive
achievements
of
our
nation's
Vietnam
veterans
and
their
families
and
firmly
represent
that
we
proudly
welcome
them
home. |

THEREFORE,

Mike

Governor

Nebraska,
DO
HEREBY
PROCLAIM
the
20th
day
of

HOME
DAY

and
I
do
hereby
urge
all
citizens
to
take
due
note
of
the
observance.
